Matai
New Zealand's premier timber floor, rich in colour, and a highly desired timber used throughout the 20th century. Although not as plentiful as Rimu, we generally have good stocks of Matai timber to make most sizes of floorboards. We normally have good stocks of Ex 4" salvaged floorboards, again, ex 6" floorboards are less abundant and come and go quickly.
Heart Matai
Colour, Red/Brown to silky orange cut from the center of the tree. Normally straight grained, a few knots, hard wearing.

Coloured Matai
The contrast between the dark heart and the light sapwood makes for a striking floor. Mainly found in 1950s to 1970s houses.
